With our Next Phase construction underway we thought it would be a great time to give you a deeper dive into a few of the ministry environments that we are most excited to utilize! This month we’ll be taking a look into our new student room.
When we opened the existing building in 2014, our student room hosted our middle school and high school students altogether for a single Wednesday night service. Over the last four years we’ve seen enough growth in both ministries that we ultimately had to split up the middle and high school Wednesday night services in an effort to make more room. This decision also allowed us to better communicate to such a diversity in age. However, in looking at the size of our current middle school class, and more importantly the magnitude of the rising 4th and 5th grade classes, we have projected that we are about to be completely out of space in our current student room…again. Luckily we saw this coming and began to formulate a plan with our student team to expand during our Next Phase project.
In Phase 2 we will be adding a new student environment! This 2500 square foot addition will be located on the front side of the building, connected to our commons area. It will allow for nearly double the number of students to engage in one of our weekly gatherings. It will also have access to an outdoor patio where our students and volunteer leaders can continue their conversations. Vista has always been great at squeezing additional function out of our spaces, and this student room is no different.
This new student space will also host a multitude of other events throughout the week, like:
- Discover The Vista membership class
- Men & women's Bible studies
- ReGen Recovery Ministry
- Small Group leader trainings
- VBS breakouts
- Ministry Leader vision nights
- Local mission partner gatherings
- And more!
You may be wondering what we plan to do with the “old student room.” You may not. Either way, here’s what we’d say. We have found a growing need for a space that can support a group of 15-20 people on Sundays and throughout the week. We plan to use half of the old student room to create a living room type environment where our smaller ministries could gather. This space could host things like our Starting Point class for new believers, our Baptism class for people taking that next step in their faith journey, or a place for our College Leadership team to dream and pray. As for the other half of the room? We aren’t quite sure yet. We see a ton of possibilities, but really want to see what God does over the next six months before committing to anything specific. That half could be used for additional kids space, volunteer and staff workspaces, another living room environment for breakouts, or anything else! More to come on that at a later date.
