After the "Beautiful Interruption" to Mary's life when the Angel tells her that she's going to have a baby, you would think she would respond with a great deal of anxiety and fear. However, what we see from this remarkable woman is just the opposite. It's an unexpected response as she sings a song of praise to the Lord. As we continue in our Advent season and get ready for Christmas, we can learn a lot from Mary about how we can respond no matter what life brings.
Jesus didn't come to actualize our plans, help us reach our full potential, and make us happy. That's a popular sentiment these days, but it's not a narrative that's in step with following Jesus. In many ways Jesus interrupts our lives. He asks us to do things and live in ways that go against our nature, all so we can be a part of a much grander narrative than our own small one. Just as He was for Mary, Jesus is a beautiful interruption to our plans, something we desperately need during this season of busyness.
